Same Story Different Land

February 16, 2023 – February 28, 2023

Curated by AJ Kluck and Leti Ochoa

This exhibition is at Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary, AB.

Same Story Different Lands is a group art show curated by AJ Kluck, Leti Ochoa. The colonizer’s iron will to dominate and steal spans the globe, and though its rooted in the same destructive attitude, each nation and community experiences the devastating consequences in their own way. This exhibition reflects on the experience of people who have fought against colonization, from their shared experiences and differences, to their joy, sadness, pain, and strength.

We hope to build relationships through art making and sharing, we hope to create a sense of solidarity between those who experience and have experienced settler-colonialism, not only in colonial canada, but across the planet. We hope to create a space that highlights those cultures that have been shut out and discarded and flattened by the tendrils of imperialism. We want to acknowledge the resistance and resilience of cultures that continue to fight or have fought to express themselves. We also want to recognize the complexities of colonization and the internal shame, pain, and intergenerational trauma it creates. We want to honour all of the experiences and ultimately embrace ourselves and our stories, to come with vulnerability and to come together.

Join us from February 16th - 28th at Alberta University of the Arts as we honour all our relations.
